OCS: Observational Coding System Tools Software

OCS may be used in a wide variety of fields.

Observational Coding System Tools (OCS Tools) software allows a researcher to enter observations, or code events, directly into a computer. The software stamps each code with the time it is entered. This can be done live, while recording an analogue tape or digital video medium, or while using a prerecorded analogue or digital video.

OCS Tools software also contains a variety of statistical analysis functions, allowing the customer to analyze data without having to transfer it to other programs. A variety of extra input options allow the computer to directly receive information from a second keyboard, CPU, or other device.

OCS allows you to code directly into the computer.

OCS Tools is a modular software, meaning that several of its features are optional. This helps each customer choose the features most suited to his or her particular needs. Thanks to the Feature Access Control System (FACS), all of the optional features may be activated at any time via email or telephone.

OCS can be used in the field with a portable system. Some of the Many Benefits:

  • Requires no stopwatches or data collection sheets, leaving researchers free to focus on the event coding task.

  • Automatically synchronizes codes with time from the computer or to machine-readable timecode on videotape.

  • Compatible with both NTSC and PAL analog and digital formats.

  • And many other advantages!

OCS coding screenSoftware Features:

  • Enter codes or annotion comments synchronized to PC system clock or to machine-readable timecode and full VCR, DVD and DV synchronization.

  • Contains a variety of analysis options, from frequency and duration measurements, agreement analysis, to analyze data without having to transfer it to other programs.

  • Use macro files to enter event code and comments information with a single keystroke.

  • Use variable files to define event codes for analysis, and to simplify data entry via mouse input.

  • Allows two operators to code simultaneously on the same computer, and can automatically capture and data from another computer.

  • Other features: Playback, dataset editing, and many more!
