Observational Coding System Features

Observational Coding System (OCS) software meets a multitude of research and product testing needs with a wide assortment of tools tailored for specific purposes. The features of OCS fall into two basic categories:

  • OCS aids in the actual collection of data, now featuring Digital Video.

  • OCS takes data that has already been collected and transforms it into useful information through statistical analysis and flexible reporting methods.

The VES software, Video Editing System, allows you to copy video from one tape to another based on information that you provide. The VCR Control and VITC timecode reading options are highly recommended for this software. Additionally, the VES software enhances in other ways:

  • The editing process produces smooth, professional-looking edits with no jumping or distortion during transitions.

VES incorporates TRC's VCR-Control, Remote Control System, which enables VCR control from a PC desktop. The TRC Remote Control System combines software and hardware components to enable desktop control of VCR(s).

The Remote Control System allows you to remotely manage various data collecting details:

  • Remote management of Pan-Tilt-Zoom Control (PTZ) functions of video cameras and camcorders.

  • Remote management of other audio-video devices.

Multimedia Hardware Features

The unique TRC PC-VC feature, PC-VideoCommander Card, reads and generates VITC timecode while controlling up to two VCRs with VCR Remote software.  This system allows you to edit the video with only one card and two cameras using TRC's Pan-Tilt-Zoom Control (PTZ) System. Cards must be connected to each other in order to control multiple VCRs and cameras. This product includes another benefit:


  • The PC-VC feature automatically writes and/or reads SMPTE standard video timecode (VITC). This feature enables the card to read timecode at any speed,including freeze frame.

The TRC Audio Box is a custom audio solution that can interface with a variety of products:

  • Up to three omnidirectional microphones.

  • Push-to-talk microphone.

  • Up to two speakers.
